چکیده

As part of the program of nuclear power development, the Russia Federation plans to increase uranium production and to improve supply from existing uranium mining and milling facilities. Moreover, development of new uranium ore deposits is also envisaged. A corollary of these developments is the placing of a high priority on environmental and human health protection Special attention should be paid to assurance of health protection both of workers and of the public living nearby such facilities. This paper reviews the status and development of understanding of facilities in the Russian Federation from a regulatory perspective.

Environmental Radioactive Impact Associated to Uranium Production

Problem statement: One century of uranium mining in Europe and North-America created a legacy of ore mining and milling sites needing rehabilitation for environmental and human safety. In the last decades developments of uranium mining displaced the core of this activity to Australia, Canada and African countries. In the coming years, uranium mining is expected to grow further, in those countri...

Uranium mining in Australia: Environmental impact, radiation releases and rehabilitation

The mining and export of uranium and the impacts (and risks) of the nuclear industry have long been a contentious issue in Australia. The ongoing debate primarily relates to the established and potential dangers of ionizing radiation released to the environment from nuclear facilities, such as uranium mines or research reactors. By 2002, three uranium milling projects are operating with a furth...

-Nuclear fuel cycle Occupational radiological safety in uranium mines and mills by J.U. Ahmed* Uranium mining and milling industries are growing

Uranium mining and milling industries are growing rapidly in many countries and this trend is likely to continue with the increasing demand for nuclear fuel. The problems of radiological hazards in this part of the nuclear fuel cycle have received considerable attention in recent years because of the epidenuological evidence of lung cancer among uranium miners, mainly smokers. The hazard is not...

Population monitoring: experience with residents exposed to uranium mining/milling waste.

More emphasis should be placed upon using biomarkers to address potential health risk among populations exposed to high concentrations of environmental toxicants. Among these studies, those which integrate exposure measurements with analyses of validated biomarkers may provide more reliable information for risk assessment and disease prevention. We have used a multidisciplinary approach to eluc...

Some took ore and radioactive fossil wood home. Waste ore was used as building material for homes. Early cohorts of miners were “really heavily exposed”, says Jonathan Samet (Keck School of Medicine, Institute of Global Health, Univ...
